It is a durable vinyl material that ranges from 40 to 100 mils thick. Though it is prone to punctures, surface cleaning and patching with chemical bonding or heat welding eliminates leak problems from returning.
As with all flat roofs, it is important to maintain a relatively clean surface. Water “ponding” does not deteriorate this membrane but does tend to stretch the material and increase the flattened area. This always creates a collection spot for the type of debris that can ultimately puncture the membrane and require repairs.
Since the material is soft and thin, it is always advisable to install walk paths and walk pads to accommodate all maintenance foot traffic. The pads or paths can consist of as little as a couple of extra layers of the thermoplastic roofing material itself. A three foot wide path of adhered material laid out to access all the areas and equipment that will periodically need maintenance will help to extend the life of this system.
Thermoplastic roofing materials are expensive but as a roof system they can be well worth the expense. The roofers as installers are to be certified by the manufacturer to be approved to install the system with full manufacturer warranties. It is a clean and easy roof system to install. These roof systems should provide you with life expectations of thirty plus years with minor repairs made along the way.
